Jordan Daily – The Islamic Action Front, Jordan’s largest opposition party, has secured more than a third of the seats in the House of Representatives, largely due to the failure of other political parties to present compelling alternatives, a prominent lawyer said.
In a social media post, Haytham Ereifej, a political commentator and attorney, argued that so-called “programmatic parties” have struggled to resonate with voters on the national stage, leaving a political vacuum that the Islamic Action Front has been able to fill.
“The discussion among political elites about the Islamic Action Front’s success is intensifying,” Ereifej said, adding that the party’s ascendancy stems from the absence of a viable political counterweight that could offer a distinct vision and appeal to other segments of Jordanian society.
He further criticized the traditional political parties for failing to present policies that attract voters, resulting in their diminishing influence and inability to compete in the national electoral lists.
Ereifej called on the government to allow the creation of a new political movement capable of challenging the Islamic Action Front with a different platform. He emphasized that such a step is necessary to achieve the democratic balance Jordan needs and to ensure political pluralism that reflects the diverse opinions and interests within the country.
