Jordan Daily – Hamas announced Saturday that its leadership has launched extensive consultations to select a new head for its political bureau following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Iran.
In a statement, Hamas highlighted its robust institutional structure and deep-rooted consultative processes, noting that the organization has consistently acted swiftly to replace leaders martyred over the years, in accordance with its internal rules.
The movement stated that, in the wake of Haniyeh’s killing, its leadership immediately began widespread consultations across its governing and Shura bodies to appoint a new leader.
From the early hours after the “heinous and criminal Zionist assassination” of Haniyeh, the political bureau and the Shura Council convened in urgent meetings marked by a sense of deep faith and brotherhood.
Hamas underscored that Haniyeh’s death is not only a loss for the movement but also a significant blow to the Palestinian people, the Arab and Islamic world, and supporters of justice worldwide. The broad global solidarity and mourning that followed, the statement added, are a testament to his impact.
