Agriculture saves Jordan JD 800 million, livestock exports surge 260%

Jordan Daily – Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, stated that the agricultural sector’s continued growth in the second quarter was driven by the implementation of the Economic Modernization Program and the National Plan for Sustainable Agriculture. These initiatives have positively impacted the sector through the integration of production inputs, a reduction in imports, and an increase in exports.

Hneifat highlighted that the agricultural sector helped save up to JD 800 million by reducing imports of fruits and vegetables while boosting agricultural exports. He also noted a significant rise in livestock exports, which surged by over 260%.

According to a quarterly report by the Department of Statistics, preliminary estimates show that most economic sectors experienced growth in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

The report revealed that agriculture recorded the highest growth rate during this period, with a 6.2% increase, contributing 0.24 percentage points to the overall growth rate.
