AI to disrupt global job market by 2030, says int@j CEO

Jordan Daily – Artificial intelligence is expanding rapidly worldwide, a trend that could have profound effects on the global job market, according to Nidal Al-Bitar, the chief executive of the Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan, known as int@j.

In a statement released on Sunday, Engineer Bitar noted that while AI offers significant advantages in improving productivity and efficiency, it also poses the risk of increasing unemployment unless governments and decision-makers implement well-considered plans.

He expressed concerns that AI could eliminate traditional jobs. By 2030, an estimated 83 million jobs globally could be lost due to AI-driven automation, though the technology is also expected to create around 69 million new jobs.

Investment in AI, which stood at approximately $95 billion in 2021, is projected to surge to $2 trillion by 2030, Mr. Al-Bitar said. He added that AI will likely bring about sweeping changes to the labor market, with 23 percent of current job roles expected to transform in the coming years. These shifts will present significant challenges, requiring governments and businesses to develop effective strategies to harness AI’s potential while mitigating its negative impacts.

Despite these challenges, Bitar sees considerable opportunities for Jordan if the country focuses on education and specialized training in AI-related fields. He urged Jordanian universities to strengthen their efforts in this regard.

Bitar also called for collaborative initiatives between the government and the private sector to enhance Jordan’s digital infrastructure and to adopt cutting-edge technologies that support innovation and economic growth.
