Al-Abdallat says King’s efforts strengthen Jordan’s global role in disability rights

Jordan Daily – Dr. Khalil Al-Abdallat, Director of the Human Rights Unit at the Prime Ministry, emphasized that King Abdullah II’s vision has positioned Jordan as a global leader in supporting the rights of people with disabilities.

Speaking at the launch of a specialized training course on disability and human rights, Al-Abdallat highlighted Jordan’s development of legislation and policies that align with international standards, ensuring justice, equality, and full inclusion for people with disabilities.

He noted the country’s strong partnership with the United Nations and its participation in global initiatives, including an upcoming summit in Berlin showcasing King Abdullah’s leadership in disability rights. Jordan’s efforts include constitutional amendments and the 2017 Law No. 20, which marked a regional milestone for disability rights.

UN Resident Coordinator Sheri Ritsema-Anderson praised Jordan’s leadership in setting global standards for disability rights and building an inclusive society.

Dr. Muhannad Al-Azza, Secretary-General of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, highlighted the progress in disability rights globally, calling for further integration of people with disabilities into society.

The course, organized by the Human Rights Unit, aims to reinforce Jordan’s commitment to advancing the rights of people with disabilities and aligns with the country’s broader human rights and sustainable development goals.
