Jordan Daily – In a move to highlight the growing role of women in global business, the Jordanian Businesswomen’s Coalition has recently announced that it will be hosting the world committee meeting of the Global Foundation for Women Entrepreneurs (Les Femmes Chefs d’Entreprises Mondiales – FCEM). Scheduled for April 20-23, an organization founded by French businesswoman Madame Yvonne Foinant at the end of World War II.
With a network spanning more than 120 countries in five continents. tFCEM is committed to encouraging women’s entrepreneurship, fostering cultural understanding, and partnering with public and private institutions on issues challenging women entrepreneurs.
Jordan was integrated into this global organization in 2015, significantly bolstering the representation of Jordanian women entrepreneurs in global business networks. By providing the platform for the FCEM annual meeting, Jordan will showcase its potential as an investment destination and the role of women entrepreneurs in its economy.
According to a statement by the Jordanian Businesswomen’s Coalition , this conference comes at a time when women’s economic empowerment is receiving increasing global attention. Despite significant strides in recent decades, women continue to face challenges in accessing equal economic opportunities. Women-owned businesses represent approximately 1 in 3 firms worldwide, but they generally earn less, employ fewer people, and are more vulnerable than businesses run by men.
In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, there is growing recognition of the economic potential of women. According to the World Bank, women only generate 18 percent of economic activity in the MENA region, compared to a world average of 37 percent. Economists have estimated that increasing MENA female labor force participation to the levels of men could boost the regional economy by 47 percent.
The forthcoming meeting in Amman seeks to tackle these issues head-on. It aims to provide a platform for exchanging experiences, fostering education and communication, and discussing matters that impact women economically. Distinguished keynote speakers from around the world will be featured, reflecting the global nature of women’s economic empowerment.
The Jordanian Businesswomen Coalition, which will host this event, comprises various influential organizations. These include the Innovative Vision Foundation for Education, the Young Women Christian Association – Amman (YWCA), and the Women’s Association for Cultural Development (Namaa).
According to the President of the Jordanian Businesswomen’s Coalition, Taghrid Nafeisi, the conference aims to “promote women’s empowerment and push the wheel of change to address gender inequality, and women’s access to economic opportunities.”
