Jordan Daily – The recent appearance of Syrian translator Reem Al-Hakim during a meeting between Ahmad Al-Sharaa, the head of Syria’s New Administration, and the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has ignited debate among Syrians.
The controversy, as reported by several news outlets, arises from Al-Hakim’s past association with the regime of former Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. Social media users have resurfaced old posts in which Al-Hakim accused Al-Sharaa of being an agent for Israel and voiced her support for Assad.
Al-Hakim, a once vocal supporter of the Assad government, has dismissed the resurfaced posts and called on others to report them.
She described herself as an “independent freelance translator” and lashed out at those criticizing her involvement with the previous regime, referring to them as “foolish monsters.” Al-Hakim also noted that she translates for various entities, including the European Union, which had specifically requested her services.
