JD- Australia will join a French and British-led mission focused on securing maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Australian Defence Minister Richard Marles.
Marles announced the decision following a meeting involving representatives from 40 nations. Australia's contribution will include a Wedgetail E-7A surveillance aircraft, previously deployed to the region to safeguard the United Arab Emirates from Iranian drone attacks.
"Australia stands ready to support a multinational, independent, and purely defensive military mission led by the United Kingdom and France, once it is established," Marles stated.
Marles emphasized that the mission is designed to complement diplomatic engagement and de-escalation efforts, while "demonstrating a tangible commitment to the security of international trade."
