Jordan Daily - Social Security Investment Fund (SSIF) reported total assets of about JOD 20.1 billion at the end of the third quarter of 2026, up from JOD 18.7 billion at the end of 2025, as it expanded investments in major infrastructure and industrial projects.
The increase of nearly JOD 1.5 billion represents year-to-date growth of about 8%, the fund said in a statement seen by Jordan Daily.
SSIF recorded total comprehensive income of approximately JOD 1.37 billion in the first nine months of the year, including net income of JOD 879 million and a net increase of JOD 492.4 million in the valuation of its strategic equity portfolio. It also received an insurance surplus transfer of about JOD 110 million from the Social Security Corporation.
Net income rose 8.6% from the same period in 2025, driven mainly by bonds, which generated JOD 511.4 million, followed by equities at JOD 248.3 million and money market instruments at JOD 86 million.
Bonds accounted for 56.2% of the fund’s assets, equities for 21.3%, money market instruments for 11.5%, real estate for 5.6%, loans for 2.4% and tourism investments for 1.6%.
SSIF is broadening its investment strategy beyond traditional financial assets to include long-term projects in water, energy, transport and mining, seeking both investment returns and wider economic benefits, its chairman Omar Malhas said.
The strategy aims to support the social security system by generating returns and creating jobs that expand the contributor base, strengthening the sustainability of pension funds, Malhas said.
Chief Executive Officer Izzeddin Kanakrieh said the fund was entering a new phase focused on growing existing investments, expanding into new sectors and building strategic partnerships. It also seeks synergies between investments to reduce costs, improve efficiency and extend value chains.
Recent investments include a 7% stake in the company developing the Aqaba-Al Shidiya-Ma’an railway, under a Jordanian-Emirati partnership. The project is expected to lower transport costs and improve efficiency for SSIF holdings in Jordan Phosphate Mines Company and Arab Potash Company.
SSIF has also partnered with Oman Investment Authority to establish the Jordanian-Omani Investment Company, equally owned by both sides, with an investment size of $100 million.
For Jordan’s National Water Carrier project, the Social Security Corporation established the wholly owned National Water Investments Company to acquire a 15% stake in the project company. SSIF is also finalising its contribution to project financing through a consortium of Jordanian commercial banks.
The Cabinet has approved SSIF’s participation through a 20% stake in the IPP7 combined-cycle power generation project. The fund is also finalising procedures to acquire a 20% stake in a purified phosphoric acid plant being developed in partnership with Jordan Phosphate Mines Company and Arab Potash Company.
SSIF said it would continue to assess opportunities in technology, mining and transport while attracting strategic partners to support investment growth and Jordan’s economy.
