Jordan Daily – AzerEnerji has completed the expansion of the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in Mingəçevir, adding 1,280 megawatts (MW) of new generating capacity, the state energy company said on Thursday.
The plant, the largest in the South Caucasus, has reached its final development stage. Specialists from Italy and China are conducting training for personnel, as the new turbines and generators were supplied by Italy’s Ansaldo Energia, while utility boilers came from China’s Dongfang Electric Corporation.
AzerEnerji said the facility, the largest power plant built in Azerbaijan since independence, will consume the least gas per kilowatt-hour among the country’s thermal plants. The plant is expected to save 1.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2 million tonnes.
Initially set for completion by the end of 2025, the project is ahead of schedule. Its total cost is estimated at $400 million.
