Belgium delivers tents to the JHCO as a donation for the people of Gaza

Jordan Daily – On Wednesday, the Belgian First Aid & Support Team (B-FAST), donated 511 tents and inner tents to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization for the hard-hit population of Gaza.

According to a statement by the Embassy of Belgium in Amman , the Belgian Ministry of Defence organized the transport with an A400M aircraft from Belgium to Amman, with a B-FAST team on board to support the operation. This mission is part of a series of B-FAST operations in the region, mainly composed of donations that have taken place or are still ongoing to address the urgent needs of civilians in Gaza.

Upon arrival of the tents in Amman, the Ambassador Serge Dickschen had the opportunity to thank the Secretary General of JHCO, Dr. Hussein Al-Shabli, for the cooperation, and reiterated Belgium’s acknowledgement and full support to Jordan’s crucial role in alleviating the suffering of the population in Gaza, while stressing that the only way to achieve a durable solution to the humanitarian disaster remains an immediate ceasefire and unconditional access of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

As the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hadja Lahbib, recalled before the departure of the cargo from Belgium, “Since the beginning of the crisis, Belgium has mobilised to come to the aid of civilians affected by the conflict in the Middle East and we will continue to do so for as long as necessary. Living conditions in Gaza are deteriorating by the day. As winter approaches, children, women, men lack everything and live in inhumane conditions. The region is facing a humanitarian disaster. We reiterate our call for a ceasefire, for the release of hostages and for negotiations for a two-state solution. Silencing the weapons is a first step towards stability and lasting peace in the region.”

The Belgian Minister of Development Cooperation Caroline Gennez added : “After 11 months of incessant violence, 1.9 million people in Gaza are displaced. That’s 9 out of 10 residents. Their homes are in ruins. Aid organisations are doing what they can to shelter people. With this donation, Belgium is making an important contribution, and we will be able to offer shelter to families in Gaza. But of course, this is only a temporary solution. What the people in Gaza really need is an immediate and permanent ceasefire.”
