Dr. Nsour received the decoration during a ceremony hosted by Ambassador do Nascimento at the Brazilian Embassy in Amman with the presence of public dignitaries.
The Order of Rio Branco is named in honour of José Paranho, Baron of Rio Branco, who is considered the patron of the Brazilian diplomacy and credited with the consolidation of the Brazilian borders by peaceful means and diplomatic action.
This decoration is an acknowledgment from the Brazilian government of Dr. Nsour’s role in strengthening bilateral relations between the Federal Republic of Brazil and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the interest of both nations’ peoples.
In his speech during the awarding ceremony, Ambassador do Nascimento stated that “It is a great honour for me to bestow this decoration on you, dear friend, enthusiast of trade and friendly relations with Brazil. We recognize true partners and staunch friends especially in times of turbulence and difficulties. And today Brazil can say that Arab Potash and its president, Dr. Maen Nsour, undoubtedly belong to this short list of names.”
In his responding speech, Dr. Nsour expressed his reverence and appreciation for receiving the Order of Rio Branco that was awarded to him by a decree by the Brazilian President Mr. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Elaborating on Jordanian efforts to cater for the Brazilian need for potassium fertilizers.
Dr. Nsour indicated that “we launched an integrated strategy encompassing product innovation, market adaptation, and infrastructural expansion. Our export trajectory has witnessed an extraordinary surge – from absolutely no Jordanian potash exports to Brazil before 2018 to 42,000 tons in 2019 to over 319,000 tons in 2024, which represents 90% of Jordan’s exports to Brazil – a testament to our resolute commitment and adaptive capabilities. Brazil is now among the largest importers of Jordan’s potash.”
Jordanian-Brazilian trade relations have witnessed steady growth in recent years, marked by mutual interest in expanding economic cooperation across key sectors. Brazil, as a leading global exporter of agricultural products, supplies Jordan with essential commodities such as food products, while Jordan exports potash and fertilizers to support Brazil’s vast agribusiness sector.
This exchange has been further strengthened by high-level visits and the establishment of representative offices, such as the Arab Potash Company’s presence in São Paulo. Both nations continue to explore new avenues for partnership, underscoring a shared commitment to sustainable trade, food security, and strategic economic alignment.
