Jordan Daily – The Embassy of Bulgaria celebrated its National Day yesterday, marking 116 years of independence at a reception attended by dignitaries, including Minister of Youth Yazan al Shdeifat and various ambassadors.
In a speech highlighting the day’s significance, Bulgarian Ambassador Metin Kazak emphasized the sacrifices made by Bulgarians for their freedom. This year also marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Jordan, which Kazak described as a vital partnership in the Middle East.

Kazak praised Jordan’s “Aqaba Process,” an initiative led by His Majesty King Abdullah II aimed at combating terrorism and promoting regional stability. Bulgaria plans to host a summit next year as part of this initiative, expressing hope that King Abdullah II will attend.
Education was another focal point, with over 1,500 Jordanian students graduating from Bulgarian universities in recent years. The Bulgarian government aims to attract more students, particularly in medical and engineering fields, to enhance educational exchange, Kazak noted.
The Ambassador indicated tourism cooperation between the two countries is also increasing. Last year, about 10,000 Bulgarians visited Jordan, and efforts are underway to boost the number of Jordanian tourists traveling to Bulgaria.
Bulgaria has supported Jordan through its Official Development Aid policy, funding local projects aimed at employment, women’s empowerment, and agricultural production. An upcoming project will provide emergency first aid training for female-headed households in the Zaatari Camp.
Kazak also addressed recent regional developments, expressing concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza and emphasizing the need for a renewed peace process, advocating for a two-state solution as essential for lasting peace.
Ambassdor Kazak expressed gratitude to sponsors and partners, reinforcing the commitment to deepening ties between Bulgaria and Jordan. Kazak called for continued unity around shared values of peace and solidarity.
Minister Al Shdeifat underscored the depth of the bilateral relations between Jordan and Bulgaria across various fields, particularly in youth engagement.
He expressed hope for enhanced cooperation through a joint executive program, the exchange of youth experiences, and the strengthening of cultural and youth exchange programs between the two friendly countries.
