Bulgarian FM on official visit to Jordan

Jordan Daily – Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel is currently on an official visit to Jordan, following an invitation from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Bulgarian News Agency reported.

The visit aims to explore new avenues for enhancing bilateral ties, with a focus on shared interests and values. This marks the first visit by a Bulgarian foreign minister to Jordan since 2018.

During her stay, Gabriel is scheduled to meet with King Abdullah II and will tour the King Hussein Business Park, a hub for innovation catering to a mix of local and international enterprises , according to the Agency.

2024 is a significant year for Jordanian-Bulgarian relations, commemorating 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties. Discussions are expected to center on bolstering security and defense, particularly in counter-terrorism efforts.

In line with this, Bulgaria has expressed readiness to host a summit as part of the Aqaba Process, an initiative by King Abdullah II aimed at enhancing global collaboration against terrorism.

The two countries have a longstanding history of trade and cooperation, dating back to 1960, with Jordan being one of Bulgaria’s key trade partners in the MENA region. The visit underscores Jordan’s role as a vital ally to the EU and NATO in the Middle East.
