Jordan Daily – Bulgaria received an unprecedented international distinction on Friday after Arab affairs expert and entrepreneur Anastas Terzobaliev was awarded the “Dove of Peace” statuette by Pope Francis at a ceremony held at the Vatican.

The award, presented in the San Giovanni XXIII Hall, was conferred at the invitation of the Vatican Secretariat of State and the International Academy of Diplomacy, recognising Terzobaliev’s contributions to peace diplomacy and international cooperation across the Middle East and Arab world, Terzobaliev said in a statement.

The honour includes the title “Diplomatic Ambassador of Peace” and an honorary statuette signed on behalf of the Pope by Cardinal José Saraiva Martínez. The nomination was initiated by South Africa and supported by members of the African Union and international peace organisations active in the Middle East and Africa. The recognition also reflected the joint efforts of Bulgarian entrepreneur and Arab affairs specialist Mihail Argatski, cited for his role in advancing humanitarian initiatives and regional dialogue.

The ceremony was attended by senior judicial and military officials, parliamentarians, and representatives of international institutions, including UNICEF Italy, alongside delegations from France, Germany, the United States and Britain.

In brief remarks, Terzobaliev reaffirmed his commitment to Africa, education rights for Palestinian children, and stronger European action against child trafficking.

It marks the first time Bulgaria has received a globally recognised peace diplomacy honour under Vatican auspices, the statement noted.
