Cairo prepares Palestinian force for post-ceasefire Gaza security- FM Minister

Jordan Daily – Egypt will not accept “irresponsible decisions” by Israel and is working at all regional and international levels to halt Israel’s war on Gaza, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said on Wednesday.

Speaking to a local TV channel, Abdelatty said Egypt’s position is clear and that it has the capacity to help broker a deal if both Israel and Hamas show goodwill, paving the way for a ceasefire and an end to what he called a “systematic starvation campaign” in the enclave.

He disclosed that Egypt has begun training 5,000 Palestinian police officers to deploy in Gaza to address a current security vacuum. The vetted officers are undergoing training in Egyptian camps and will operate under the Palestinian prime minister’s authority after a ceasefire, as part of efforts to restore unity between the West Bank and Gaza.

The Palestinian Authority would manage Gaza through a special committee, Abdelatty said, with reconstruction to be addressed at an international conference in Cairo. The event will also discuss security arrangements, development, and rebuilding.

Abdelatty accused Israel of pursuing a policy of “dominance and arrogance of power” aimed at expanding military operations and gaining full control over Gaza, warning such actions would not bring Israel security or stability.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s stance that Israeli security can only be achieved by addressing the Palestinians’ legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent, sovereign state. “Imposing force will not lead to peace, but will complicate the regional scene,” he said.

Egypt is in contact with Hamas, Israel, Qatar and the United States to secure a truce that would halt the war and allow aid to reach Palestinians, Abdelatty added.
