Jordan Daily – Security forces detained a parliamentary candidate from Amman’s Second District on Saturday in connection with a judicial enforcement order, according to a security source.
The Islamic Action Front (IAF) condemned the arrest of its candidate, Jihad Al-Madadat, who was running for the Christian seat in the district. Al-Madadat was detained while en route to the Independent Election Commission’s office with party members to complete election procedures.
The IAF criticized the arrest as part of broader efforts to pressure Al-Madadat into withdrawing from the race, linking it to what they describe as “ongoing pressures on several of the party’s candidates.”
The party expressed deep concerns that such actions jeopardize the fairness of the election, calling on the Commission and relevant authorities to intervene , warning that these tactics, which they argue contradict official promises of government neutrality, could undermine the country’s political reform process and deepen public mistrust in state institutions.
In response, the Independent Election Commission stated that all candidates who were accepted in both general and local districts had obtained the required clear criminal record documents within the last 30 days.
