Jordan Daily – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, speaking at a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty following their strategic dialogue, addressed China’s perspective on the current situation in Syria.
Wang expressed deep concern over the recent severe unrest in Syria, noting China’s long-standing policy of friendship and cooperation with the country. He emphasized that China has refrained from interfering in Syria’s internal affairs and respects the choices made by the Syrian people.
“We support the earliest possible achievement of peace in Syria,” Wang said, calling for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254. He advocated for a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political process and stressed the importance of rebuilding the nation through comprehensive dialogue that aligns with the will of the Syrian people.
Wang also underscored the need for Syria to resolutely reject terrorism and extremist forces in any form. He called on the international community to uphold Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, respect its national and religious traditions, and allow the Syrian people to make their own decisions.
Furthermore, he urged the international community to provide joint assistance to Syria, calling for the removal of long-standing unilateral and illegal sanctions to alleviate the country’s severe humanitarian crisis.
