Jordan Daily – Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Jordan Chen Chuandong bid farewell on Tuesday at a reception in Amman, marking the end of his four-and-a-half-year tenure.

Speaking at the farewell reception, Ambassador Chuandong reflected on his time in Jordan, which began in late 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He described his experience as deeply moving, noting Jordan’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and the warmth of its people.

“I feel at home each and every day in Jordan,” Chuandong said, recalling visits across all governorates, including Petra, Wadi Rum, and Madaba, and engagements with local communities, students, and Syrian refugees.

Highlighting the development of China-Jordan ties, Chuandong emphasized deepening political trust and expanding bilateral cooperation. “Our two countries firmly support each other on issues involving core interests,” he said, referencing coordination on regional issues, including the Palestinian cause.

Trade between the two countries grew from $3.6 billion in 2020 to $5.37 billion in 2024. He noted successful joint projects in energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure, including the Arab Potash Company, the Chinese-backed Attarat oil shale power plant and road development near As-Salt.

Cultural and educational exchanges also gained momentum. Over 600 Jordanians are studying Chinese in Jordan, and over 500 Chinese students are learning Arabic in the Kingdom. Cultural events and university partnerships were cited as strengthening people-to-people ties.

Chuandong expressed gratitude to His Majesty King Abdullah II, government, diplomatic corps, Chinese community, and citizens for their support. “Your friendship is not only for me personally, but also because I represent China,” he said.

As China and Jordan mark the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership, Chuandong voiced optimism about the future. “China and Jordan will always remain true friends and good partners,” he concluded.
