Conference launched on enhancing sexual and reproductive health policies for vulnerable groups in Jordan

Jordan Daily – On Wednesday, a conference titled “Enhancing Sexual and Reproductive Health Policies for the Most Vulnerable in Jordan” was launched, organized by the Information and Research Center of the King Hussein Foundation.

The event brought together representatives from government, national institutions, and civil society organizations.

Dr. Raed Al-Shboul, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health for Primary Healthcare and Epidemics, opened the conference on behalf of the Minister of Health. He noted that the Ministry has made significant strides in enhancing healthcare in recent years by improving infrastructure, expanding health insurance coverage, and updating health regulations.

He emphasized that the Ministry continues to work towards achieving national public health goals, including sustainable development and Jordan’s Vision 2025.

Al-Shboul added that the Ministry’s 2023-2025 National Strategy prioritizes the integration of primary and secondary healthcare services, alongside the development of health legislation in line with international standards. He highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to finding innovative solutions to healthcare challenges, particularly for vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities.

The conference, he said, provides an important platform for exchanging ideas and formulating practical recommendations that will bolster national efforts and support Jordan’s commitments to human rights and sustainable development goals. These efforts aim to strengthen the national health system and ensure it meets the needs of the community.

Dr. Ayman Halasa, Director of the Information and Research Center of King Hussein Foundation, noted that the conference would see the launch of three policy papers. These papers are the result of a year-long collaborative effort involving ministries, national institutions, civil society organizations, and subject matter experts.

The policy papers aim to enhance the legal and administrative frameworks protecting vulnerable groups, aligning with government efforts to promote human rights and achieve sustainable development goals. They also support Jordan’s commitments under the Universal Periodic Review mechanism for human rights.

The first day of the conference included discussions on proposed amendments to the 2004 Maternal and Child Health and Family Planning Services regulations, as well as a session addressing legal mechanisms to prevent the sterilization of women with disabilities.
