Corporate donations aim to offset U.S. aid freeze

By : JD

Jordan Daily – More major Jordanian companies have joined a corporate social responsibility initiative, donating portions of their profits to support the education and health sectors. The move follows a government appeal for contributions after a financial strain triggered by the suspension of previously committed U.S. aid to allied countries.

Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company announced it would allocate 5% of its annual profits to the initiative. The Arab Potash Company pledged JD 40 million over three years, while a banking coalition launched the effort with a  JD 90 million donation.

The campaign aims to raise up to half a billion dinars within three months to offset a shortfall of around JD 650 million, which the previous U.S. administration had pledged under a parallel support program.

The initiative gained momentum following King Abdullah II’s recent high-profile visit to Washington. Government sources say it seeks to compensate for funding cuts imposed by the U.S. President Donald Trump, whose executive orders halted USAID projects in Jordan. The funding freeze disrupted multiple initiatives, including school construction, municipal projects, local development efforts, and healthcare programs.
