Jordan Daily – Czech graphic designer and illustrator Jiří Votruba will participate in the fifth edition of Comics Week in Amman, Jordan, from April 28 to May 4.
The event, titled Comics Beyond Borders, is held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Wijdan Ali and supported by the European Union Delegation to Jordan. The opening ceremony will be attended by EU Ambassador Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas.
Votruba, 79, is internationally recognized for his distinctive graphic style and thematic cycles ranging from portraits and flowers to composers and urban life. His work, often found on merchandise in Prague, features prominent cultural figures such as writer Franz Kafka and composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
With over 50 exhibitions worldwide, including in Germany, France, Japan, and several MENA countries, Votruba’s designs have garnered global attention. His poster for the Czech pavilion at Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan, received widespread acclaim.
In recent years, Votruba has turned his artistic focus to themes of consumerism and modern society, as seen in his latest series titled Too Much Love. His contributions to children’s literature, particularly a popular illustrated book introducing opera to young readers, have also been well-received.
His artwork, including contributions to children’s magazines and the animated film Return of a Goldfish, continues to influence and inspire across generations and borders.
