Dimona reactor poses minimal radiation risk- expert says

By : JD

Jordan Daily – The director of the Jordan Research and Training Reactor, Majd Al-Hawwari, said on Wednesday that a potential explosion at Israel’s Dimona nuclear reactor would pose minimal radiation risk to Jordan, with any impact likely confined to a 5-kilometre radius inside Jordanian territory, mostly in sparsely populated areas.

“The radiation impact on Jordan would be almost negligible,” Hawwari told local media, adding that the Dimona reactor is located approximately 25 to 30 kilometres from the Jordanian border.

He added that Jordan has tools to track wind patterns and has run simulations to assess potential fallout. The effort began after the Gaza conflict erupted in October 2023.
