Jordan Daily – Jordan’s domestic revenue rose to JOD 8.432 billion in 2023, up from JOD 8.121.9 billion in 2022, marking an increase of JOD 310.1 million.
The rise in local revenues was attributed to a JOD 136.4 million increase in tax revenues and a JOD 173.7 million hike in non-tax revenues compared to the previous year. Local revenues covered 87.6% of the current expenses, reflecting the government’s approach to bolster financial independence.
Tax revenues climbed due to a JOD 215 million surge in general income and profit taxes, totaling JOD 1763.2 million in 2023, up from JOD 1548.2 million in 2022. This increase was credited to improved tax compliance and filing without raising tax rates.
Meanwhile, general expenditures in 2023 rose by JOD 537.2 million, reaching JOD 11003.9 million, or 5.1% higher than in 2022. This was primarily due to a 7.5% or JOD 672 million increase in current expenditures.
