Dutch Embassy celebrates King’s Day

Jordan Daily – The Dutch embassy in Amman held a reception on the occasion of King Willem-Alexander’s 58th birthday, known as King’s Day, attended by officials, members of the diplomatic community, and other distinguished guests.

“King’s Day is an opportunity to reflect on the strong ties between the Netherlands and Jordan,” said H.E. Harry Verweij, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Jordan. “This year, we mark 74 years of diplomatic relations between our two Kingdoms — a partnership defined by close cooperation across various fields and the deep-rooted friendship between our Royal Houses.”

During his opening speech, Ambassador Verweij reaffirmed the Netherlands’ strong and lasting support to Jordan. This includes the recent signing of a €31 million grant for the Aqaba-Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance Project, as well as efforts to empower young entrepreneurs through the Orange Corners incubation programme.

In addition, Ambassador Verweij highlighted the Netherlands’ steadfast support for Jordan’s role as a generous host to refugees. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Jordan in addressing the long-term impacts of displacement, the Netherlands last year committed an additional $98 million to launch the second phase of the Prospects Partnership, extending cooperation until the end of 2028. Through this partnership with trusted partners—UNICEF, UNHCR, IFC, ILO, and the World Bank—the Netherlands’ continues to support both refugees and host communities by creating opportunities in education, employment, protection, and access to water.

“The Netherlands remains committed to supporting Jordan’s national priorities, with cooperation focused on key sectors such as water security, private sector development and strengthening bilateral trade, while placing the needs of the most vulnerable, such as refugees, host communities, women and youth , at the heart of our programming,” added Ambassador Verweij.

On the political front, Ambassador Verweij acknowledged Jordan’s prominent role in promoting and maintaining regional stability, and reaffirmed the Netherlands support to the Middle East Peace Process.
