Jordan Daily – Engineer Abdullah Asem Ghosheh reassured the public that the 5.4-magnitude earthquake that struck northern Syria and was felt in Jordan last night is not a cause for concern.
He emphasized in a post on Facebook that such magnitudes typically do not result in any damage and that the real risk arises only when an earthquake exceeds 6.0 on the Richter scale.
Ghosheh also highlighted that following the Turkey-Syria earthquake two years ago, the Jordanian government implemented several precautionary measures. These included updating seismic building codes and inspecting ongoing construction projects to ensure they are designed to withstand earthquakes.
He further explained that weaker tremors are a natural phenomenon that can occur regularly in the region due to various factors. In his post, Ghosheh described an earthquake as a natural event characterized by a brief shaking of the Earth’s surface, caused by the movement of tectonic plates, with the point of origin referred to as the “epicenter.”
