Jordan Daily – Egyptian security analyst Mohamed Makhlouf said on Sunday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks on the Philadelphia corridor, a narrow strip of land along the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, were an assault on the 1979 peace treaty and a provocation for war.
Makhlouf, who is also the deputy chief – editor of Dar Akhbar Al-Youm newspaper , said Netanyahu is trying to rally his domestic supporters by making “suicidal” statements that would backfire on his political survival.
“He is facing a lot of challenges from the Palestinian resistance , and he knows that the Egyptian army is a powerful and organized force that will not tolerate any aggression on its territory,” Makhlouf added.
Netanyahu said on Saturday that Israel must maintain control over the Philadelphia corridor and that it would reject any alternative arrangement.
