Jordan Daily – The Independent Election Commission (IEC) has reiterated its impartiality in response to recent criticisms regarding the role of political parties in the ongoing election campaigns.
Speaking on Monday, IEC spokesperson Mohammad Khair Al-Rawashdeh emphasized that the commission remains neutral and is not in opposition to any political party operating in the country.
“We wish for the political parties to play a national, leadership, and responsible role in leading the political scene,” Al-Rawashdeh stated on Al-Mamlaka TV. He expressed surprise that the IEC has been drawn into discussions and complaints from elite and public circles about the perceived lack of substantial party programs and the inadequate explanation of party positions through campaign advertising.
Al-Rawashdeh specifically addressed criticism of the “superficial” nature of some election campaigns, noting that many street advertisements focus on candidate images rather than their platforms or slogans. “I want to address the issue of superficial election campaigns that have filled the streets. These have been criticized for focusing on faces rather than on slogans or programs,” he said.
