Environment Minister visits Green Climate Fund HQ in Seoul

Jordan Daily – Minister of Environment Dr. Aiman Soleiman visited the headquarters of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in Seoul on Thursday during the Global Green Growth Week (GGGI Week 2025).

Soleiman met GCF Executive Director Dr. Mafalda Duarte and Regional Manager for MENA Region Dr. Amgad Elmahdi, along with the project team, to discuss Jordan’s water security initiatives.

He thanked in a statement seen by Jordan Daily, the fund for approving a $295 million project to desalinate and transport water from Aqaba to Amman, calling it “pivotal” for addressing the country’s water scarcity challenges.

Dr. Duarte praised Jordan’s efforts and described the project as the GCF’s largest single investment globally in the water sector.

Soleiman highlighted the importance of continued collaboration to support national and regional projects that enhance environmental sustainability and climate resilience in Jordan.
