Jordan Daily – Lawyer and legal expert Haytham Ereifej stated that a newly passed Israeli law, which permits the expulsion of relatives of individuals involved in attacks, constitutes a violation of international law.
Ereifej pointed out that such a measure amounts to collective punishment, which is explicitly prohibited under international legal standards.
“This law contravenes international conventions that prohibit punishing groups for actions committed by individuals,” Ereifej said, adding that the legislation could lead to legal ramifications for Israel and bring it under scrutiny from the United Nations Security Council.
Ereifej referred to key provisions in international law, including Article 87 of the Third Geneva Convention, Article 75(2) of Protocol I, and Article 4(2)(b) of Protocol II, which prohibit collective punishment in cases involving both civilians and prisoners of war.
