Jordan Daily – The European Union and Jordan have signed a Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership, marking a significant deepening of their long-standing relationship, the European Commission announced on Wednesday during a visit by King Abdullah II to Brussels.
The new agreement aims to enhance cooperation in key areas such as political relations, regional security, trade, and investment, and includes a financial package of EUR 3 billion for the period 2025–2027. The European Union said the package underscores its commitment to helping Jordan tackle ongoing geopolitical challenges in the Middle East.
“With this partnership, the EU and Jordan are standing side by side to support each other in meeting the extraordinary challenges we are all facing,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement. “Europe will remain at your side through thick and thin.”
Jordan, seen as a stabilizing force in the Middle East, has played a crucial role in hosting millions of refugees and promoting regional peace. The EU acknowledged Jordan’s pivotal efforts, particularly in maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza and providing humanitarian assistance.
Von der Leyen praised Jordan’s leadership, saying, “Your resilience and commitment to regional stability are remarkable.”
Under the agreement, the EU will back Jordan’s political, economic, and administrative reforms, part of King Abdullah II’s broader modernisation agenda.
The partnership aims to strengthen Jordan’s economic resilience and attract investment to bolster its economy. Cooperation will also extend to education, migration, and security, with a shared commitment to advancing values of peace, democracy, and human rights.
“This partnership is the right decision at the right time,” von der Leyen added.
