EU pushes diplomatic initiative for two-state solution at Palestine conference

Jordan Daily -Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, represented the EU at the High-Level Conference on the Question of Palestine and the two-state solution.

Šuica met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Palestinian Planning Minister Dr Estephan Salameh, and Germany’s State Minister Florian Hahn. She co-chaired the High-Level Working Group on the Peace Day Effort, presenting a post-agreement strategy structured around three pillars: a phased and conditional peace support package, regional security cooperation, and a Global Alliance follow-up mechanism to implement the Two-State roadmap, according to a statement released by the EU.

The Commissioner thanked Guterres for his continued peace efforts and announced €30 million in EU funding to UNRWA to support salaries of teachers and medical staff in Palestine- completing the bloc’s 2025 allocation under its Multiannual Comprehensive Support Programme.

Šuica also discussed the future of Gaza reconstruction, regional investment opportunities, and the EU’s role in shaping post-conflict Palestine through initiatives like the Palestine Donor Group and the Peace Day initiative.

She underlined the importance of a reformed Palestinian Authority (PA) as the legitimate future governing body, stressing the need for regular revenue transfers from Israel and international monitoring of PA reforms through the donor group.

“This conference was about turning words into action. We showed that diplomacy and international engagement can have real impact. While advocating for peace, the EU works with international partners to ensure delivery of aid, and help build a viable, democratic, and unified future Palestinian State in peace alongside the State of Israel. This conference has produced an action-oriented roadmap for peace, grounded in international law to bring together global actors to coordinate post-war reconstruction in Gaza, support Palestinian institutional reform, advance the release of hostages and demilitarisation.

A Two-State solution is not just an option, it is the only way to a just, lasting and sustainable future,” Šuica noted.
