Jordan Daily – The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) wrapped up the first Rural Products Festival in Ma’an Governorate on April 25, 2024, according to a FAO statement to Jordan Daily.
The three-day event, which ran from April 22 to 24, showcased local products and crafts from the region.
The festival was inaugurated by Senate representative Mr. Muhammad Daoudia, acting on behalf of the President of the Jordanian Senate, Mr. Faisal Al-Fayez. The Ma’an Agriculture Directorate organized the event in collaboration with the Jordanian Farmers Union in Ma’an and with backing from the FAO in Jordan.
The festival was part of the “Sustainable Production and Utilization of Agro-Natural Resources (SPUAR) Initiative in Ma’an Governorate” project, funded by the Italian Government through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).
The event drew more than 300 attendees from Ma’an Governorate and featured 80 participants skilled in food industries and handicrafts. Associations working in these fields also took part in the festival.
The festival served as a platform for local artisans to display and sell their products, which included dairy products, jams, dried tomatoes, pickles, baked goods, cakes, apple cider vinegar, and honey. The event also fostered networking opportunities, allowing participants to meet with members of the local community, stakeholders, and shop owners.
The festival underscores the FAO’s commitment to supporting local communities in their food production efforts, particularly those involved in the SPUAR project, the statement noted.
