Fertility rate declines to 2.6 births per woman, new survey reveals

Jordan Daily – Jordan’s fertility rate has declined to 2.6 births per woman of reproductive age by the end of last year, down from 2.7 in 2018, according to the latest Population and Family Health Survey.

The survey, released by the Department of Statistics on Wednesday, also highlights regional disparities, with fertility rates higher in rural areas compared to urban ones. Fertility rates ranged from a low of 1.9 births per woman in Aqaba to a high of 3.1 in Ajloun and Mafraq.

The detailed report for the 2023 survey, which is the eighth in a series of demographic and health surveys conducted in Jordan, was launched in the presence of representatives from various national and international partner organizations.
