Jordan Daily – The Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC) successfully concluded the first edition of its newly launched initiative, Mosaic Post-Production Lab, which brought together five compelling documentary films by Jordanian and Arab filmmakers in their final stages of Post-Production.
Mosaic Lab is designed to support directors and editors working on their first or second feature-length or documentary films. The program offers participants professional guidance and mentorship during the critical creative phase where a film’s story takes its final shape, the commission said in a statement.
Launched in November 2024, the Lab began with a three-month virtual consultancy phase, where participants received one-on-one mentorship from international creative consultants. This was followed by an intensive five-day in-person Lab held in Jordan from 10 to 16 April 2025, creating a collaborative and nurturing space for filmmakers to refine their work.
The selected projects — “40 Years of Silence” by Maythem Ridha (Iraq), “A Teacher’s Tale” by Zaid Bawab (Jordan), “Donkey Boys” by Ahmad Al-Bazz (Palestine), “I Am A Script Girl” by Mina Nabil (Egypt), and “Son of the Streets” by Mohammed Al-Mughanni (Palestine) — reflect the diversity and depth of contemporary Arab documentary storytelling, each offering a distinct and resonant voice.
During the in-person Lab, participants took part in daily focus group discussions, received extensive feedback from peers and mentors, and attended specialized masterclasses delivered by renowned industry professionals. Topics included Sound Design for Documentaries, Color Grading, Music and Emotion in Film, Festival Launch and Digital Distribution, and AI in Documentary Post-Production.
The Lab concluded with private work-in-progress screenings held in a cinema setting, followed by feedback sessions with a curated audience. This gave participants valuable insights into audience reception ahead of final edits and festival submissions.
Creative consultants David Lloyd, Heba Othman, and Sabine El Gemayel offered expert guidance throughout both phases. Othman shared her input saying: “I’m very happy to be part of what I believe is the first Post-Production Lab in the region. I genuinely enjoy helping emerging filmmakers achieve the best version of their stories, and I hope this continues for years to come.”
Participant Ahmad Al-Bazz reflected on his experience: “At Mosaic, I was paired with highly experienced editors who gave detailed and insightful feedback on my rough cut. This journey will leave a lasting impact on my final film.”
Two participants were selected in collaboration with leading Arab film festivals: Ahmad Al-Bazz (Donkey Boys) was awarded participation through the Amman International Film Festival, while Mohammed Al-Mughanni (Son of the Streets) was nominated via the CineGouna Platform at the El Gouna Film Festival, a testament to the growing partnerships between Mosaic and regional cinema platforms.
Mohannad Al-Bakri, Managing Director of the Royal Film Commission – Jordan, stated that: “The Post-Production phase is where a film’s soul takes its final shape. Mosaic was created to ensure that powerful voices from our region are not just heard but fully realized. We are proud to support these filmmakers in delivering their stories to the world with clarity, intention, and heart.”
The Royal Film Commission – Jordan remains committed to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and globally competitive Arab film industry. Mosaic Post-Production Lab is set to become an annual program, continuing its mission to support independent filmmakers in crafting powerful cinematic narratives.
