Jordan Daily – Former Deputy Prime Minister Jawad Anani on Tuesday called for a unified Arab and Islamic vision to counter the expansionist policies of Israel’s right-wing government, warning of growing regional risks amid shifting political and economic dynamics.
Speaking at the Middle East Studies Centre in Amman, Anani said, “Strategic changes in the region require a unified Arab vision to confront Israeli right-wing policies and halt its expansion.”
He stressed that Arab states must bolster internal resilience and coordinate efforts to protect national interests and regional security. “Avoiding Israeli encroachment demands strengthening internal fronts and a joint Arab-Islamic project,” he said.
Anani cautioned that economic shifts, including Arab investments in high-tech, renewable energy, and AI, heighten vulnerability to Israeli influence due to links with global firms, many of which are U.S.-based. “The Israeli lobby uses these ties to influence U.S. policy toward the Middle East,” he noted.
He also warned of the Israeli right’s use of social and economic tools to expand influence, including claims of defending minority rights.
Regarding Jordan, Anani highlighted potential threats such as negative economic fallout and possible forced displacement from the West Bank. “Addressing these impacts requires a comprehensive strategy and innovative economic transformation,” he said, urging greater civil society involvement and internal cohesion.
He concluded that relying on Arab states for security support remains difficult, reinforcing the need for national self-reliance.
