Jordan Daily – Former Prime Minister Samir Rifai said on Sunday he supports the creation of a new administrative city to relocate government ministries and ease congestion in Amman, but opposes the proposed site in Madounah, southeast of the capital.
Speaking at a forum organized by the Jordanian-Lebanese Association in Amman, Rifai suggested building the city instead in Qatraneh, about 90 km south of Amman. He proposed offering retirees incentives and shares in a state-backed “Land Bank” to encourage relocation and boost household incomes without extra cost to the government.
Rifai also said the events of Oct. 7 had renewed global attention to the Palestinian cause and isolated Israel due to its actions in Gaza.
He urged Palestinian unity and called for modern approaches to tackle Jordan’s internal challenges, stressing the need for program-based political parties to help bridge gaps between the government and parliament.
