Jordan Daily – The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) was honored with the United Nations Public Service Award in the Climate Action category at the 2024 United Nations Public Service Forum held in Incheon, South Korea.
The forum, themed “Fostering Innovation amid Global Challenges: A Public Sector Perspective,” celebrated outstanding public service achievements worldwide, GAM said in a statement.
Sajeda Alnsour, Director of the Project Follow-up and Sustainability Unit at GAM, accepted the award on behalf of the municipality. GAM was recognized for its initiative, “Improving Living Conditions of Disadvantaged Areas in Amman and the Urban Micro-Lungs Initiative,” according to a statement released on Thursday.
The award-winning project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, was implemented by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) in partnership with the Jordanian Ministry of Environment and GAM.
This initiative addresses the urgent need for public green spaces in eastern Amman, focusing on enhancing green infrastructure, improving residents’ quality of life, and fostering biodiversity. Additionally, the project aims to strengthen social cohesion through participatory planning and design.
The United Nations Public Service Award is an esteemed international accolade recognizing excellence in public service. It honors innovative achievements by public institutions that contribute to more effective and responsive public administration globally.
