Gaza says Israel waging ‘deliberate starvation campaign’

Jordan Daily -The Government Media Office in Gaza warned on Monday that the humanitarian situation in the enclave has reached a state of total collapse, amid continued Israeli blockade and restrictions on aid deliveries.

In a statement released late Monday, the office said the worsening crisis is the result of what it described as a “systematic policy of siege and starvation” imposed by Israeli forces on the civilian population in Gaza for more than six months.

The statement said the complete and deliberate halt of humanitarian aid for over six weeks has significantly exacerbated the situation.

“The Gaza Strip is currently facing a real humanitarian catastrophe and a clearly defined famine,” the office said, adding that hunger now poses a direct threat to the lives of civilians across the territory.

More than 1.1 million children are suffering from acute malnutrition, it added, amid a severe shortage of food and clean water, near-total collapse of the healthcare system, and the absence of basic necessities.

“Long queues in front of the few remaining food distribution centers have become a daily tragic scene throughout Gaza’s governorates,” the statement said.

It concluded by calling the situation in Gaza not a passing crisis but “a deliberate starvation campaign that amounts to a war crime being committed by Israeli forces.”
