Georgian parliamentary delegation holds talks in Jordan, discusses boosting bilateral cooperation

Jordan Daily – A delegation from Georgia’s Parliament, led by Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Nikoloz Samkharadze, held meetings with senior officials in Jordan as part of an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

Samkharadze and his delegation met with Dina Awni Mohammad Al-Bashir, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, and Hani Fawzi Al-Mulki, former Prime Minister and current Chair of the Senate’s Committee on Arab, International Affairs, and Expatriates, the Embassy of Georgia in Amman said in a statement sent to Jordan Daily.

The delegation also met with Ambassador Majid Qatarneh, Secretary-General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. Discussions focused on ways to enhance bilateral relations across multiple sectors and on regional developments.

Additionally, the Georgian delegation met with Hussein Amoush, head of the newly established Jordanian-Georgian Parliamentary Friendship Association, a body formally launched during the Georgian visit.

Talks focused on expanding cooperation in trade, education, and tourism. The Georgian side highlighted economic, transit, and energy initiatives underway in Georgia and discussed prospects for deeper engagement.

The construction of a Georgian Cultural Center at the Baptismal Site of Jesus Christ on the Jordan River was also discussed. Georgian officials thanked King Abdullah II for allocating land for the project and expressed appreciation for the Jordanian government’s support.

Regional security was a major topic during the meetings. Jordanian representatives addressed developments in the Middle East, including the conflict in Gaza and the situation in Syria. Georgian officials briefed their counterparts on the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories, security challenges in the Black Sea region, the war in Ukraine, and Armenia-Azerbaijan relations.

Samkharadze expressed gratitude for Jordan’s support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and extended an invitation for a reciprocal visit.

The Georgian delegation included Davit Matikashvili, Head of the Georgia-Jordan Parliamentary Friendship Group; Irakli Kadagishvili, Member of the Foreign Relations Committee; and Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the European Integration Committee.
