Jordan Daily – Under the patronage of the Minister of Environment, Dr. Muawieh Radaideh, and in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Kim Pilwoo, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and Al Hussein Technical University (HTU) launched the Green Skills Training Program.
The program, funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), aims to equip the Jordanian workforce with the technical skills necessary to support the green economy. The launch took place at HTU’s headquarters.
The Minister of Environment, in his remarks, expressed in a statement his appreciation for the partnership with the Korean government, KOICA, GGGI, and HTU in implementing this project, which was initiated last year to create sustainable green jobs for host communities and refugees.
Dr. Radaideh highlighted that this program represents a significant step toward advancing the green economy in Jordan and creating jobs by enhancing technical expertise in promising future sectors.
He stressed the importance of the program’s professional training modules, which include the installation and operation of photovoltaic solar systems, maintenance of hybrid and electric vehicles (HEV/EV), energy efficiency, and thermal pump systems. The program aims to train youth in Amman, Irbid, Zarqa, and Mafraq and support them in finding employment opportunities.

Korean Ambassador Mr. Kim Pilwoo stated that this program is especially meaningful because it is closely aligned with key pillars of Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision: a green Jordan and a smart Jordan. While mentioning Korea’s own experience of having transformed from a war-torn country into one of the world’s leading economies by investing in education, he reiterated the Korean government’s unwavering commitment to supporting Jordan’s sustainable development, particularly in the fields of education and vocational training.
Ms. Kim So-young, Director of KOICA’s Jordan Office, emphasized the importance of this program in supporting green skills development in Jordan, ensuring the workforce is prepared to lead the green economy, and contributing to a sustainable future for the country.
Dr. Ismail Al-Hinty, President of HTU, announced that the program will commence with its first cohort in early 2025. A total of 450 participants will be trained over the next year, with the program consisting of 240 training hours that combine theoretical education and practical field experience. Participants will receive certifications accredited by national and international bodies, improving their employment prospects in the green economy. Job placement support will also be provided to achieve successful employment outcomes for graduates.
The event concluded with the signing of a cooperation agreement between GGGI and HTU to deliver the Green Skills Training Program.
The program focuses on advancing an inclusive green economy in Jordan, with training targeting the inclusion of women, refugees, and youth from economically disadvantaged communities in Amman, Irbid, Mafraq, and Zarqa. Participants will benefit from tailored training and job placement support, ensuring that the program not only enhances technical skills but also promotes social inclusion and economic resilience.
The Green Skills Training Program is a direct response to the increasing demand for skilled technicians in the growing green economy. By providing high-quality training in photovoltaic technology, electric vehicle maintenance, and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, the program will contribute to building a skilled workforce capable of supporting Jordan’s transition to a sustainable, low-carbon economy.
This initiative is part of GGGI’s ongoing efforts with KOICA to promote green jobs and sustainable livelihoods in Jordan, as well as to support the country’s green transition and economic diversification.
