Jordan Daily – The Cabinet has given the green light to a comprehensive plan aimed at restructuring water and sanitation tariffs for household use for the period of 2023-2029. The move, endorsed on Sunday, comes as part of efforts to secure the country’s water resources and ensure long-term financial stability.
The Jordan Water Authority currently grapples with a substantial debt of JOD 2.3 billion, a figure that threatens to escalate to JOD 4 billion by the year 2030 if immediate measures are not taken to alleviate this growing burden. It’s noteworthy that the cost of producing one cubic meter of water currently stands at 220 piasters.
Under the approved plan, a significant change involves shifting from quarterly to monthly billing cycles for all sectors, effective as of the September invoice. Importantly, the current tariff rates will remain unchanged until January 12, 2024.
