Gunfire at Jordan-Israel crossing leaves two Israeli soldiers in critical condition

By : JD

Jordan Daily – Israeli authorities shut the King Hussein Bridge /Allenby with Jordan on Thursday evening after a shooting attack left two Israeli soldiers critically wounded, the military said.

Israeli Army Radio reported that at least one gunman opened fire at a cargo terminal on the Israeli-controlled side of the crossing. Security forces “neutralised” the assailant, it said, without giving further details.

Emergency services said two Israelis were evacuated in critical condition after suffering gunshot wounds. Some media outlets reported that one Israeli had been killed, though the army has yet to confirm.

Government spokesman Mohammad al-Momani said Amman is monitoring reports of “a security incident on the other side of the Karameh crossing” and would release details once confirmed.

The King Hussein Bridge known as Allenby is the main gateway for Palestinians in the West Bank to travel abroad.
