Health and politics: A closer look at Biden and Trump’s 2024 prospects

By: Dr. Ali Fawaz Al-Adwan

Jordan Daily – As the US election race heats up, the impending showdown between current President Joe Biden of the Democratic Party and former President Donald Trump of the Republican Party is drawing global attention.

Biden, at 81, faces scrutiny over his health and capability to serve a second term. Despite his efforts to address concerns about his fitness, some voters are wary of his ability to lead effectively. In contrast, Trump, at 78, is perceived as more energetic and active, leveraging this perception to galvanize support from the Republican base and attract independents.

Biden aims to retain Democratic support while tackling key issues like climate change, health care, and the economy. However, he confronts major obstacles, including high inflation and several international crises.

Trump, meanwhile, capitalizes on his strong backing from the Republican base, driven by his perceived success in economic policies and a robust foreign policy stance. Despite facing legal challenges and ongoing investigations, his political influence and mobilizing capability remain substantial.

In foreign policy, Biden focuses on fortifying alliances and enhancing relationships with global partners. Trump, on the other hand, champions an “America First” policy that prioritizes US interests, resonating strongly with supporters who believe this approach restores America’s prestige and power.

The outcome of the upcoming election hinges on several factors, including voter mobilization, campaign effectiveness, and addressing pressing national issues. Democrats must highlight their achievements and make additional gains to secure voter support, while Republicans need to consolidate their base and appeal to undecided voters.

Ultimately, the race remains unpredictable. The candidates’ ability to adapt to evolving circumstances and earn voter trust will be crucial in determining the next President of the United States.
