Jordan Daily – Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem said on Monday the group will not hand over its weapons to the Lebanese government after it issued a decision calling for the militia to disarm.
In a televised speech, Qassem said the government had “committed a grave mistake” by seeking to strip the resistance of its arms during the ongoing Israeli aggression.
He accused the United States of attempting to destabilize Lebanon and incite internal strife, adding that “without the resistance, Israel would have reached Beirut just as it reached Damascus.”
Qassem said Israeli forces were contained in a limited area in southern Lebanon because of Hezbollah’s presence. He warned that if the government did not reverse its decision, it would prove “unworthy of safeguarding Lebanon’s sovereignty.”
