Jordan Daily – The Independent Election Commission (IEC) has announced that the registration for candidates in the 2024 parliamentary elections will start today and will be available for three days.
Mohammad Khair Al-Rawashdeh, spokesperson for the IEC, outlined the eligibility criteria for candidates. Applicants must have held Jordanian citizenship for at least 10 years, be registered in the voter rolls, not have been declared bankrupt, and must possess full legal capacity, among other legal requirements.
Al-Rawashdeh also highlighted specific requirements for forming candidate lists. In local constituencies, candidates must attend the main election committee, agree on the order of names, and specify the nature of the list, such as whether it is for general competition or reserved quotas for women, Circassians, Christians, and Chechens. Additionally, lists must meet the minimum number of seats allocated for the constituency.
The IEC has published a comprehensive candidate guide on its website. The guide includes details on running for local and general electoral districts, regulations for electoral campaigns, locations of election committees in various constituencies, disclosure of campaign funding sources, expenditure regulations, and application forms for candidacy.
