Jordan Daily – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi received a phone call from his Irish counterpart, Micheál Martin, on Monday. The discussion centered on the latest regional developments, efforts to halt the Israeli aggression on Gaza, and the ensuing humanitarian disaster.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Safadi emphasized the necessity of intensifying efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the ongoing violations of international law and international humanitarian law by Israel. He stressed the importance of protecting civilians and ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of adequate and sustainable humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
Safadi highlighted the need to protect the Palestinian people and international organizations and relief agencies working in Gaza, who are striving to mitigate the impact of the continuous Israeli assaults on the Palestinian population. He called for enabling these organizations to perform their crucial humanitarian role in providing aid to Palestinians in the region.
Safadi also warned about the serious implications of Israel’s illegal measures against the Palestinian people and the Palestinian National Authority in the occupied West Bank, which constitute a blatant violation of international law and represent a dangerous escalation that undermines all prospects for achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
Additionally, Safadi and Martin discussed the deteriorating situation in southern Lebanon. Safadi underscored the importance of de-escalation and adherence to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
Safadi appreciated Ireland’s clear stance in calling for an end to the aggression on Gaza, its recognition of the Palestinian state, and its support for the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and statehood based on a two-state solution in accordance with international law.
For his part, Martin commended Jordan’s role in efforts to achieve security, stability, and peace in the region, as well as its efforts in delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
