India, Jordan hold foreign office talks, vow to deepen ties

Jordan Daily – India and Jordan held a round of Foreign Office Consultations (FoC) on Tuesday in Amman, reviewing bilateral relations and pledging to expand cooperation across multiple sectors.

The talks were led by Majed Qatarneh, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and  Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa & Overseas Indian Affairs) from India’s Ministry of External Affairs.The last such meeting was held virtually in 2020.

Held in a “cordial atmosphere,” the discussions covered political-security cooperation, trade, development, and people-to-people exchanges, according to an Indian government statement. Both sides also agreed to mark 75 years of diplomatic ties with commemorative events.

Chatterjee expressed India’s appreciation for Jordan’s support following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

India and Jordan share close ties, with bilateral trade reaching $2.8 billion in 2023–24. India was Jordan’s fourth-largest trading partner during the period.

The two sides committed to diversifying economic ties and boosting mutual investment. During his visit, Chatterjee met with Indian nationals, Jordanian business leaders, academics, and cultural figures.

The next round of consultations will be held in New Delhi at a mutually convenient date, the statement noted.
