Indonesia condemns Israeli attack on Qatar at emergency Arab-Islamic summit

By : JD

Jordan Daily – Indonesia condemned Israel’s recent strike on Qatar as a “flagrant breach of international law” and urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take a united stance in defending sovereignty and regional stability.

Speaking at the emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha on Sunday, Foreign Minister Sugiono said Jakarta stood in full solidarity with Qatar after the attack, which he described as “horrific and cowardly.”

“We salute the resilience of Qatar, and we join the Qataris in condolences to those were martyred,” Sugiono told leaders gathered in the Qatari capital. “Indonesia condemns the recent aggression by Israel against Qatar. It is not only an attack on Qatar’s sovereignty, but also a grave threat to regional and global peace.”

Sugiono conveyed regrets from President Prabowo Subianto, who visited Doha on Sept. 12 to meet Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and underline Indonesia’s support.

The minister said the incident in Doha reflected “decades-long impunity” for Israeli actions, linking it directly to the unresolved Palestinian question. “It is about the survival of our nations, the dignity of our peoples, and the sanctity of international law,” he said.

Sugiono called on the summit to issue a “clear, principled, and united” response, including collective condemnation of Israel and pressure on the U.N. Security Council to take urgent action.

“At the same time, we must not lose sight of the root cause: Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine,” he added.

Indonesia reiterated its long-standing position in support of a two-state solution, calling for the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on U.N. resolutions.

“Let this Summit be remembered as the moment the OIC stood firm: defending sovereignty, humanity, and justice,” Sugiono said.
