Jordan Daily – Head of Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry Fathi Jaghbeer said that the chambers of industry refuse any decrease in customs fees on imported goods that have national counterparts, noting that several countries support their national products and have lower energy costs, which makes it difficult to compete in the national market.
Jaghbeer pointed out during a meeting with the minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousef Shamali yesterday, attended by several industrial investors , that some sectors will be negatively affected by any reduction in customs duties due to the high costs of production, which will weaken their competitiveness in the local market.
He explained that canceling or reducing the customs fee will not have that positive impact on citizens , since the sales tax constitutes the largest burden them .
Shamali said that the government will establish a JD57-million fund to support national industries, and allocations were included in the 2022 general state budget , noting that industrial production inputs will continue to be exempted from any customs duties.
